Description

Original antique copperplate engraving showing how the progression of the year and the tilt of the earth affects the length of the days and the seasons. This engraving was originally published in the middle of the 18th century in Germany by Peter Conrad Monath to illustrate his treatise on natural phenomenon, Schauplatz der Natur, oder Unterredungen.

The engraving includes text in German that describes the features of the engraving in depth. Several globe models are shown throughout to illustrate how the proportions of the northern and southern hemispheres enveloped in night differ during summer and winter. The signs of the zodiac help the viewer locate the months.
