Description

Decorative family tree showing the genealogy of the English monarch, dating back to Empress Matilda and Geoffrey of Anjou.

The genealogy builds upwards from the roots of the tree, passing through six hundred years of English rule and eighteen generations of the tree before reaching the heirs of James VI (and I of England). His heir was the future Charles I. Around this point, the genealogy becomes rather complicated - his predecessor was Queen Elizabeth, although she was from a different line than his mother, Mary Queen of Scots, who was also Queen of England. The source of the tree's claim to the throne was in the conquests of Matilda and Geoffrey and the leadership of Henry II.

Numerous decorative elements appear throughout the map. At the center left is the royal palace at Nonsuch. The image at the top left shows King James I of England and Queen Anne of Denmark.

This beautiful genealogy was published by Antonio Albizzi in Augsburg in 1616.
