Description

Fantastic Colorado bird's-eye view map covering essentially the entire state

This pamphlet repurposes a 1918 Clason Map Company view of Colorado to promote the San Luis Valley as a vacation destination in 1926. The map has been overprinted with red numbers that correspond to a key in the pamphlet (e.g., "4. San Luis Lakes, (bass fishing, boating, swimming, hunting)"). At the bottom of the pamphlet is an ink manuscript note "- By A.R. "Bill" Sunde". The pamphlet was prepared by the Colorado Editorial Association, but we were unable to discern any immediate connection between the organization and Sunde.

Skiing in Colorado began at the beginning of the 20th century; Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs has operated continuously since 1914. However, the use of "Ski-Hi" to market the San Luis Valley strikes us as unusual for 1926.

Rarity

We have been unable to trace any other examples of the view or pamphlet.
