Description
Scarce lettersheet view of Cincinnati, published by Edward Mendenhall.
The City is shown from across the River in Covington, Kentucky, with a lively letter in German on the verso from Inn Keeper Philipp Holzmann to his family in Germany.
Philipp Holzmann was then operating a boarding house and an inn. He writes to his family in Germany about his family, a living son and a daughter who died in infancy; then he inquires about the 15 thalers that were previously awarded.
According to the final remark, his wife, Kathrina Holzmann, comes from the Württemberg Oberamt Sulz.
