Description

Scarce broadsheet map published by the Pacific Coast Land Bureau to promote an auction of land Stockton, California.

The land being sold belonged to Captain Charles M. Weber, who founded the city in 1848. A significant portion of the central part of Stockton was being offered for sale, as illustrated by the shaded areas on the map.

Interesting areas include the State Insane Asylum and the Stockton Channel which shipped goods between Northern California and San Francisco prior to the construction of additional ferries or bridges.

Includes an extensive description of Stockton on verso.
