Rare early map of the Federation of South Arabia (later part of present-day Yemen) before the addition of the State of Aden and Upper Aulaqi Sultanate.

The Federation of South Arabia (FSA) was established in April 1962. The FSA included 15 protected states of the Federation of Arab Emirates of the South, which had existed from 1959 to 1962. The State of Aden, formerly Aden Colony, joined the FSA in January 1963. In June 1964, the Upper Aulaqi Sultanate was added for a total of 17 states.

The present map includes several additional states which are not listed below, including Radfan, Halmain, Bani Musallim, Upper Yafa,  

The FSA lasted until November 1967, when its status as a British protectorate ended, along with that of the Protectorate of South Arabia, becoming the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen.
