Description
Scarce celestial chart explicating the source of the phases of the moon with attractive aesthetics. This delightful piece was produced as part of Visconti and Dufour's rare and marvelous Tableaux du Systeme Planetaire, published in 1830 in Paris by Felix Delamarche.
This plate shows the orbit of the moon around the earth, demonstrating how an observer on earth will see different phases. A description at the bottom describes the scene in French.
The aesthetics of the piece are truly remarkable, with a decorative sun with long rays and a simple earth surrounded by the blue sky. In all, a very desirable piece.
