Description

Emanuel Bowen's antique map depicts the Spanish and Southern French coastlines in detail, showing a clear representation of the region from the Gulf of Valencia, across the Mediterranean and the Straits of Gibraltar, up to the Bay of Biscay and Bretagne.

The map offers a striking display of this significant expanse of European coastline. The Bay of Biscay, known for its rough seas, and the calmer Mediterranean are contrasted effectively. This navigationally driven map shows a the myriad coastal towns, capes, and bays.

Included in the map is a compass rose. Adding a touch of artistic flair, the map features a large decorative cartouche. This element provides balance to the technical detailing, demonstrating Bowen's sensitivity to design and overall aesthetic appeal.

The map was intended for inclusion in Tindal's Continuation of Rapin's History, a notable historical work of the time.
