Path of Comets Across Aries and Ceres
Rare pair of images on a single sheet, showing the path of a number of comets across the celestial sky.
One image shows the head of constellation Ceres--depicted as a whale and with the component stars represented atop its body, with five comets marked.
The second image depicts a wider view of Ceres' mouth, as well as the ram Aries, depicted in the same fashion. A total of nine comets are shown across the two constellations.
Stanisław Lubieniecki was a Polish Socinian theologist, historian, astronomer, and writer. He published an important work on comets, entitled Theatrum cometicum, duabus partibus constans, an illustrated anthology of 415 comets from the biblical epoch of the deluge up until 1665.
