Description
Fine antique celestial map showing the organization of the heavens, with the elemental realm at the bottom. This fantastically designed chart shows the theological rankings from the seraphs, at the top, all the way down to the human race, at the very bottom. This chart was published in 1696 in Nuremberg by Johann Zahn.
The plate is firstly divided into three sections, the angelical realm, the sidereal realm, and the elemental realm. Each realm is itself subdivided into three further realms according to theological teachings.
This plate was originally published as part of Johann Zahn's Specula physico-mathematico-historica notabilium ac mirabilium sciendorum, a review of mathematics and natural history.
