Description

Produced in 1991, Muscat City Maps Map & Street guide 1:20000 constitutes a four-sheet comprehensive overview of the capital city of Oman, Muscat. Compiled by Nortech Surveys under contract for the Director of the National Survey Authority, Ministry of Defence, Sultanate of Oman, this set presents an extensive urban map drawn from aerial photography and field revisions conducted from 1988 to 1991.

The city of Muscat, a historic trade center on the Arabian Sea, has been a key site of strategic, economic, and cultural significance over the centuries. The Muscat City Maps Map & Street guide encapsulates this rich history and modern urban development, providing detail and a wide range of features such as residential areas, commercial sectors, parks, sports fields, road systems, government buildings, and historic sites, among others.

A notable feature of this mapping series is the level of detail provided. The four-sheet guide encompasses varied components of the urban landscape, categorized in a detailed legend that includes distinctions between residential and commercial areas, various types of roads, public amenities, and significant buildings such as mosques, churches, temples, and embassies. Moreover, the presence of historic watchtowers and Wadi Spread adds a layer of cultural and historical relevance to the maps.

The Muscat City Maps Map & Street guide was printed for the National Survey Authority of Oman by Mazoon Printing Press. Derived from precise 1/10,000 scale material based on aerial photography from 1988 and supplemented by field and air photographic revisions in the subsequent three years, the maps stand testament to the meticulous process involved in their creation. This comprehensive mapping series, therefore, serves as a valuable resource, offering in-depth insights into the urban landscape and historical context of Muscat.
