Rare Early Oklahoma Road Map with Gas Early Annotations

Fine early road map of Oklahoma, published by the Clason Map Company in 1915.

This is one of the earliest maps of Oklahoma to focus on automobile roads, which are shown in red and listed with two different color codes, general roads and "main" roads.

In addition to the roads, and early owner has added in pencil annotations showing "Gas Here".  While we were tempted to think that these were early gas stations, they are in fact the location of early gas well discoveries in northwestern Oklahoma, most notably the Garber Field (shown in pencil at the top), which was a major discovery in 1916 in Garfield County.

Rarity

This is a very early edition of the map, the earliest we could locate. We found only pre-1920 edition of the map in OCLC (Princeton, 1918 edition).
