Description
The First Printed Plan of New Haven, Connecticut
Rare early town plan of New Haven, Connecticut, published in Hartford in 1794. No engraved is identified, but the printer is Elisha Babcock.
The map appeared in A History of Three of the Judges of King Charles I, by Ezra Stiles, a work describing the travels in the Connecticut Valley of Edward Whalley, William Goffe, and John Dixwell, who had voted for the execution of Charles I, before fleeing England during the Restoration.
Stiles wrote this work while serving as President of Yale, a position he held from 1778 to 1795.
