Description

Inspired by the famous image by James Montgomery Flagg I Want You for the US Army, this poster changes the facial expressions and hand gestures of Uncle Sam to convey an aura of secrecy. The poster instructs the viewer to not discuss troop or ship movements or war equipment, lest enemy sabotage occur.

Unlike World War I, which saw a successful German attack on munitions in New York, World War II saw no similar endeavors. However, attacks on ships were commonplace, with the endless U-Boat attacks during the Battle of the Atlantic leading to tens of thousands of deaths on both the Allied and Axis sides.

Leon Helguera was a naturalized American citizen from Mexico who produced several propaganda posters for the war effort, including his Americanos Todos Luchamos por la Victoria, which recruited Latino citizens.
