Description

Fascinating pictorial map of the central English shires showing the area frequented by the folklore hero Robin Hood. Focusing on the southern portions of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, this map is printed in attractive Lincoln Green, the color most often associated with Robin Hood.

Notable scenes related to the Robin Hood tale can be found above and on the sides of the map. On the map, itself are named the many cities and localities associated with Robin Hood, and the map is centered on the legendary Sherwood Forest, where Robin Hood and his Merry Men are based.

The tale of Robin Hood is perhaps most known to modern audiences through the 1973 Disney classic, however, reference to this hero date to the late 14th-century poem Piers Plowman. Following this, several Late Middle Ages ballads were composed about him, further developing his legend. Popular for his trait of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, the myth of Robin Hood lives on today.

Everett Henry was an American illustrator whose other artwork credits include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn From the Book by Mark Twain, a similar thematic map and historical montage.
