Description

Early Southern California Auto Touring Maps

Rare early pair of automobile road maps, covering Southern California and Central California, published to promote Shell Oil Company of California.

The primary map extends north to Paso Robles,  Bakersfield and the Mojave Desert and south the Mexico, with a large inset map of the Los Angeles Basin and smaller inset maps of other major Southern California Cities.  The verso map extend north to the Sacramento area.

The cover are depicts and early Shell Gas Station.

Shell Oil Company of California was first established by Royal Dutch Shell in 1915.

Rarity

The map is unrecorded.  OCLC lists 5 maps by the Parker Map Company covering areas with California between 1916 and 1922, none of which focus on Southern California.
