Description

Very rare map of the Veneto region of northern Italy, first published by Giovan Battista Mazza in 1590 after the model map of Cristoforo Sabbadino.

The map depicts the undulating rivers and lagoons of the Veneto watershed. It places particular emphasis on Padua and Treviso. Mazza has extended the focus of the Sabbadino to include Ferrara and part of Friuli.

This is Bifolco & Ronca's second state (of 3), with Mazza's name and the 1590 date erased and replaced with that of Bertelli.

Francesco Bertelli has also added the coats of arms of Doge Francesco Contarini, who was elected on September 8, 1623, and he was in office until December 6, 1624. This dates the second state of the map to circa 1623-24.
