Nice example of this early map of the region around the Adriatic Sea, based upon Claudius Ptolemy.
The map appeared in Strabonis rerum geographicarum, one of the earliest and most important scientific treatises on historical geography. The work is notable among other things for the 27 double-page woodcut Ptolemaic-style maps by Sebastian Münster detailing the known regions of the world.
This is Strabo's only surviving work, the Geographia represents a survey of the topographical, historical, and political characteristics of the principal regions of the Roman world, also including information concerning philosophy, political theory, geology, mathematics, science, and history.
