Description

Attractive vintage folding map of Palm Beach, with a general map of the cities of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach on the recto, and "Dolph's Map of Lake Worth Florida" and "Palm Beach County, Florida" on the verso.

Vintage maps of Palm Beach a rare and this one is quite detailed. Numerous hotels and clubs are named, such as The Breakers, Palm Beach Biltmore, The Whitehall, Lido Pools, Everglades Golf Links, and the Bath & Tennis Club. Mar-a-Lago is not mentioned as it was still a private residence of the Post family at the time.

The upper left corner of the map features an extensive street index.

The map is roughly datable by the naming of "Palm Beach International Airport (Formerly Morrison Field)". The airport was called Morrison Field up to 1948, then Palm Beach International Airport, but in 1951 the name was changed again to Palm Beach Airforce Base, a name it held for most of the 1950s.
