Description

A scarce and interesting regional map of Chinese Tartary, extending from the Gobi Desert in the West to Mongolia in the East.

Includes extensive notes and explanations in Latin. Based upon D'Anville's seminal work in 1732 map.

The map Includes far western China and Mongolia, Japan, Korea and Manchuria. Dense with old place names, routes, rivers and general topography. Numerous points of Latin text in the map address subjects from Mongolians to the great Gobi Desert (here "Cobi").

Original hand-color with later additions to the decorative elements. Engraving on two sheets of laid paper joined as one.
