The map shows the world, following the discoveries of the British and French Circumnavigators of the late 18th Century, including Cook, Vancouver, La Perouse and others.
North America includes the recent discoveries of Lewis & Clark and the mapping of Alexander Humboldt in the West. The Northwest Passage is largely explored, but without a final connection which would come following the explorations of John Franklin in the 1850s and subsequent search for Franklin's lost expedition.
Australia includes the Bass Strait, following its discovery by Flinders. The first parts of Antarctica are shown south of Tierra del Fuego.
