Rare German map of South Carolina, published in Weimar.
The map shows early towns, roads, rivers, lakes, and other geographical features.
The early road detail is noteworthy. Many court houses and post offices also shown.
This German edition by Weiland was inspired by Carey & Lea and is by far the rarest of the maps in this genre. The engraving quality of the maps far surpasses the American edition and is often supplemented with new information not on the original Carey & Lea map.
