Description

Rare plan of the City of Veracruz and the Castle of San Juan de Ulua, lithographed in Mexico City circa 1854.

Dated in the year of the Plan of Ayutla, intended to overthrow President Santa Anna during the middle of the Second Federal Republic of Mexico, the map shows the heavily fortified castle o San Juan de Ulua at a time when it was not under Siege by foreign powers.  The three ships surrounding the castle waters includes a sidewheeler ship named  "Estado de Mexico", along with 2 sailing ships.

The maker of the map is identified and would appear to ber Impressa de ??.  The technique and quality of the image strongly suggest a Mexican source, but we were not able to locate another example.
