Scarce color chromolithograph of a race on the Mississippi River between the Lincoln and the Davies, published in Leeds by R. Rogerson.
The map notes that it is "From a Sketch By The Captain of the Lincoln," with Chromolithography by Yates & Co. of Old Radford, Notts (Nottingham).
The Lincoln notes that it was a steamship of the Vicksburg, Natchez and New Orleans Mail Line.
The view is drawn from an original by Currier & Ives, showing a race between the Natchez and the Eclipse.
One can only imagine that the choice of names is somewhat of a joke, given the unlikelihood of the Vicksburg, Natchez and New Orleans Mail Line operating a steamboat named after President Lincoln. More likely, this is a bit of English humor relating to Abraham Lincoln versus Jefferson Davis.
