A elegant paddle steamer is shown cruising between St. Louis and New Orleans, with is two stacks billow dark smoke and two American flags fly proudly above its upper deck. Passengers are visible on the upper three decks, generally dress in elegant attire, while on the lowest deck, a mixed scene of workers and passengers can be seen, with wood piled high in the center of the lower deck and cargo and barrels stored a bit further forward.

Fine example of America's celebration of its industrialization and technology.
