Description

Japanese Pictorial Map from the Occupation of Manchuria.

Fascinating pictorial map reflecting Japanese sentiments about the invasion of Manchuria and occupation of Korea, and the threat posed by the Soviet Union.

The map shows various factions' locations with their national flags, including the Soviets and the British and the Chinese Nationalists (with their flag of a blue field and white star).

There are acts of brutality illustrated on both sides, with beatings and executions depicted on the map.

On the northern border, Soviet soldiers are shown peering across the border, looking to invade.

The back of the map features a general map of the situation in East Asia.

Wikipedia summarizes the Japanese invasion of Manchuria thusly:

The Japanese invasion of Manchuria began on 18 September 1931, when the Kwantung Army of the Empire of Japan invaded Manchuria immediately following the Mukden Incident. The Japanese established the puppet state of Manchukuo, and their occupation lasted until the Soviet Union and Mongolia launched the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation in 1945.
