Rare separately published English World Map by William Berry, embellished with a dedication to King Charles II.
Berry bases his cartographic content on Nicolas Sanson, with revisions. While crediting Sanson, the maps are actually based upon the work of Alexis Hubert Jaillot, who published a large atlas of maps printed on 2 sheets beginning about 1672.
California is shown as an island. New Zealand's west coast appears, as does a part of Australia, although Van Diemen's land is still floating on its own, far detached from Australia, which is missing much of its southern and eastern coastlines.
A massive Land of Jesso or Jeco bridges most of the distance between Japan and California.
The search for the Northwest Passage is much in evidence, with only conjectural coastlines shown north of the unnamed Hudson's Bay.
A decent example of this very rare map.
