(East-Central California) Bishop Quadrangle

Topographic survey map of the area around Bishop, California to just north of Owens Lake, with parts of Inyo, Sierra, and Sequoia National Forests, Bishop Tuff (Volcanic Tableland), and Bishop Reservation shown. Marshes, indicated by blue symbols, dot the Owens River Valley north of Klondike Lake. The area was surveyed in 1910 and 1911, a time when it became entangled in the building of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, leading to the "water wars" of the 1920s, the inspiration for the film Chinatown. Tinemaha Reservoir, part of William Mulholland's original plan for the aqueduct, was built in 1927-1929 near Fish Springs.
