Description

Highly unusual Louisiana Borders -- Early Appearance of Wisconsin

Rare separately issued map of the United States, published by H. McDowell in 1833.

Perhaps the most noteworthy features of the map is curious error in the construction of Louisiana, which has resulted in a strangely configured Mississippi and Arkansas Territory.

The map also includes a very early appearance of Ouisconsin (Wisconsin) Territory). and misconfigured Michigan Territory.

The Territory of Wisconsin was formed in 1836. However, maps by the Farmer family first utilized the name Ouisconsin in the title of a map as early as 1830.

The map is very rare. OCLC locates only the "imperfect" copy in the Library of Congress.
