Description

Fascinating pamphet on the history of modern socialism, entitled "Rodoslovnoe derevo sovremennago socializma," published in St. Petersburg in 1906.

The title of the pamphlet translates as: "An explanation of the Genealogical Tree of Contemporary Socialism," Biblioteka obscestvenno-politiceskich znanij, 8, Otd. I.

At the top of the tree, is the title which translates as First of May, Holiday of the Proletariat.

At the center of the tree are the names of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, along with the date of the publication of the Communist Manifesto (1848).

At the three bases are the routes of communism, given as:

  • Left branch: Growth of Cities and Natural Husbandry and Gov't establishments
  • Center branch: Rise of mercantilism and growth of capitalist means of production
  • Right branch: Growth of the proletariat and expropriation of land belonging to agriculturalists / center worker communes, class warfare.

The pamphlet in which the tree appears was apparently banned, as it includes redlining below the title.
