Description

Detailed post-French & Indian War map of North America, featuring the mythical River of the West, introduced by Lahontan at the beginning of the 18th Century.

The map notes the areas discovered by Juan De Fuca and Martin D'Aguilar, as well as other interesting annotations, including the place where Sir Francis Drake was believed to have spent 5 weeks, "New Year's Haven," the Snowy Mountains of California, the known extent of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, and a Mountain of Bright Stones near the source of the Assinbois River.

The map features the boundaries of the British Colonies following the conclusion of the French & Indian War. The French claims to the Ohio Valley are no longer present, with Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia showing borders running west to the Mississippi River.
