Description

Interesting post-Guadalupe Hidalgo map of Texas, Mexico and the Southwest and Southern US. The border between the US and Mexico is a variant of the Treaty line established by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, although the eastern limits of the border just west of the Sierra Nevadas is pushed even farther north than the actual Treaty. This error of following the course of the Gila resulted in the Gadsden Purchase, which resulted in the US acquistion of the region south of the Gila and parts of Southern New Mexico. The map names Indian Tribes, early missions, rivers, forts and several early settlements.
