Description
A very curious Russian map of North America, bordered with panels richly decorated with images of American fauna.
The continent shows national boundaries as they appeared before 1846. The boundary between the United States and British North America (later Canada) in the Pacific Northwest, predates the setting of the boundary along the 49th Parallel, as prescribed by the Oregon Treaty (1846). Also, the American Southwest is still shown to be part of Mexico, prior to its annexation to the United States, following the Mexican-American War (1848).
