Description
Fine large example of a form contract of the type utilized my American Mariners in the mid-19th Century.
The contract includes a detailed recitation of the following "Acts of Congress of the United States of America for the Governance of Seaman' Merchants &c. &c."
- An Act for the Governance and Regulation of Seamen in the Merchants' Service. Passed July 30, 1799
- An Act supplementary to the Act concerning Consuls, Vice-Consuls , and for the protection of American Seaman. Passed February 28, 1803.
- An Act in amendment of the Acts for the Punishment of Officers against the United States. Approved March 3, 1835.
- An Act in addition to several Acts regulating the Shipment and Discharge of Seaman, and the Duties of Consuls. Passed July 20, 1840.
