Heiden's map illustrates the Toulon in June 1759, at the time of the English Blockade of the Toulon Harbor, under the command of Admiral Edward Boscawen and Vice Admiral Broderick. The French had amassed a force of in Toulon with the intention joining other forces in Brest, but were blockaded by the English forces from June 1759 to early August 1759.
