Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd (1888 - 1957) was a naval officer and explorer. He was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. This newspaper style promotional item from General Mills celebrates Bird's second expedition to the South Pole, including accounts from Little America, which served as base for explorations. In 1934, it was also the site of the first radio broadcast from Antarctica, which is noted in the paper.
