Striking large format view of the City of Delft, from Reiner Bottet's Beshryving dedr Stadt Delft . . . , first published in Delft in 1729.
The view includes three sets of trumpeting cherubs, the ones in center holding aloft 2 coats of arms and the outer pairs holding aloft title banners, with a description of the city and a key with 36 important place names, as located on the view.
The City of Delft received its charter in 1246. Delft gained important in 1572, when William of Orange (Willem van Oranje), one o the primary leaders in the struggle against Spanish occupation during the 80 Years War, moved to the city.
