Description

Rare promotional brochure map of Key West, and "Official Program and Souvenir," publicizing the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway.

Rare map and promotional tract publicizing Flagler's famous East Coast Railway, detailing the Key West Extension between Miami and Key West during its construction. The map includes an inset of the entire state, another detailing the town and most of the island of Key West.

Below the map are seven vignette photographs showing construction including dredging, workers laying rail across the Long Key Viaduct, a fine view of the entire concrete viaduct and a large Excavator on rails. Directly below the map is a wide elevation view "Miami to Key West Bay, 155.84 miles."

The practices of the Outina warriors after winning a battle, as described by Jacques le Moyne. Enemies who perished in the battle were scalped, and the scalps were then held over a fire to allow the skin to dry. The bodies were then dismembered, with the arms and legs also serving as symbols of their tribe's power and triumph over their enemy. The final step in declaring victory was to thrust an arrow into the anus of the enemies' corpses.
