Description

Uncle Sam pushes the Spanish out of the Philippines.

Beautifully color-printed Spanish-American War political cartoon featuring Uncle Sam stepping off an American battleship to crush Spanish forces in the Philippines and plant the American flag there. In the background shells explode over Matanzas and Cuba generally. A diminutive Spanish soldier is shown cowering back in Spain while Uncle Sam finger-wags at him.

"Judge" was a weekly magazine founded in 1881 that featured political cartoons, satire, and humor, much like its rival, "Puck." The magazine was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party, in contrast to "Puck's" more Democratic leanings.
