Description

Handsome example of the first edition of Darton's Geographical board game.

The map is titled on each side: "Walker's Geographical Pastime or Tour through the Eastern Hemisphere or Old World. An Amusing and Instructive Game" [and] "Walker's Geographical Pastime or Tour through the Western Hemisphere or New World. An Amusing and Instructive Game".

A handsome rendition of the world at the outset of the 19th century. The map labels the Gulf of Corea [Korea]. Various explorers' tracks, including those of Vancouver, Mackenzie, Cook, and La Perouse are noted. The game invites young people (and perhaps not-so-young people) to imagine themselves participating in that Golden Age of global exploration at the beginning of the 19th century.
