Important early map of Washington Territory, being the first large format GLO map of the Territory.

The map notes the Puget Sound Agricultural Company Land, North Pacific Rail Road Route, Surveyed lands, proposed Surveyed Land and Land under contract, US Reservations, roads and trails, projected rail roads, completed railroads, Coal Lands, Gold Mines, Lead and Silver Mines, Coal Oil and Gold. Remarkable details.

Wheat notes that this map is a significant update and improvement from the prior maps and notes that there is significant change east of the Cascades, including a Lead and Silver Ledge on the eastern slope of Mt. Rainier and Gold Mines northeast of Lake Chelan, on the Similkameen, on the Columbia between Priest Rapids and White Bluffs, near the mouth of the Spokane River, near the mouth of Clarks Fork and on the Snake River, opposite Lewiston.

Wheat also notes a Yakima Indian Reserve on the Pisco River boasts a Mill, Fort and Agency. Lake City appears near Four Lakes, and in northeastern Washington Ft. Pinckneyville and Harney Depot. Stevens Route PRR is shown, as are two small stretches of completed rail lines on the Oregon side of the Columbia.
