Description

Very Rare Swedish School Atlas.

A handsome and very rare school atlas published in Stockholm probably circa 1803, based on the dating for instance, of the map of Europe, by Johan Christ. Holmberg. The title page is dated 1801.

The maps are by Anders Åkerman, with amendments and corrections by Daniel Djurberg, "Rector of the School, Member of the Cosmographic Society in Uppsala."

The cartography is interesting and, in some cases, unusual. The map of North America include a rendition of the Sea of the West long after such a myth had fallen out of fashion in more up-to-date centers of cartography, such as London and Paris.

Rarity

The maps are individually rare and unlikely to be encountered outside of this atlas.

OCLC locates editions of 1801, 1803, and 1804 in the National Library of Sweden only.
