Description

"Follow The Lead of America's Greatest Oil Producers"

Large variant edition of this exceptional oil investment promotional map of Texas, promoting investment in the fields all over the state.

A colorful geological map of Texas forms the base for this elaborate and information-rich promotional map produced during one of the state's first great energy booms.  Dated June 1920, the map's surrounding text promotes the properties of the National Producing and Refining Company of Fort Worth. Purple arrows connect descriptions of fields with their places on the map. The fields are scattered all over central and west Texas.

The back of the map is packed with text extolling the virtues of the Texas oil industry with dozens of testimonials about large and recent profits made. One anecdote relates the story of a judge in Shreveport, Louisiana who apparently turned down $1,000,000 for an oil property he had purchased only months earlier for $4,000. Nearby another line reads "Oil millionaires in Oklahoma have become so common as to be almost unattractive."

Rarity

Old World Auctions offered for sale a copy of the 1920 first edition of the map in 2011, which sold for $5,750.00, lacking the promotional add-ons.

In 2021 they sold a rather more worn example of this map for $3,250.
