Description

Interesting map of North America, issued shortly after the conclusion of the of the Mexican War and shortly before the discovery of gold in California.

Texas is shown in its largest configuration after joining the United States, but before the Compromise of 1850 would establish its borders with New Mexico and Indian Territory.

Massive oversized New California, pre-dating the formal creation of Utah Territory.  New Helvetia is shown, but no indication of the gold discoveries. The border with Mexico along the Gila River approximates the border of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, but pre-dates the Gadsden Purchase.  In the interior of New California, the last vestages of Lake Timpanagos and the mythical Rio Buenaventura are shown.
