Description
For the moment, this map is a bit of mystery and the dating a matter of conjecture. The map presents a marvelous view of the entire world from the north, with classical Bay of the West, Australia and New Zealand projectsions which would suggest a dating between 1760 and 1780. The engraving is attributed to Lattre, which is how we based our speculative dating. The map also includes a representation of the zodiac. The surrounding text is dedicated primarily to celestial information and observations on the various other terrestrial observations and explanations of the map. The details are date and coordinate oriented and reflect the tremendous scientific detail incorporated by Le Raye. A very rare and attractive map, completely unknown to us.
