Description

Extremely rare mid-19th Century map of Pennsylvania from T.R. Tanner's General Atlas, one of the rarest of all mid-19th Century Atlases. Includes insets of Philadephia and Pittsburg. TR Tanner was Henry Schenk Tanner's son. It is known that he re-issued several of Tanner's works, including a rare late issue of the American Atlas. The General Atlas was apparently a new undertaking , although reminiscent of Finley's work. We have never seen a complete copy of the atlas, although Karrow notes the existence of the Wisconsin map (6-1664). One of the rarest of all Pennsylvania Atlas maps.
