Robert James Elliot  was a British naval officer, painter, and topographical draughtsman.

Elliot entered the British Navy on February 26, 1802. He rose to the level of commander by 1814.

Elliot is perhaps best known for his remarkable sketches of India, published as Views in the East in 1930. Elliot is also known to have produced the first view of Singapore, published for the narrative of Crawfurd's mission in 1828.
