A near flawless example of Elwe's decorative map of the World, one of the last double hemisphere world maps embellished in the traditional style of 17th Century maps of the world. Elwe's map is an anomaly, in that it depicts late 17th Century cartography. The map is based upon the earlier maps of Sanson and Jaillot. The embellishments, showing the various continents as women and the indigenous flora and fauna, etc., is done in a more traditional Dutch style. Elwe's maps are quite scarce. A gorgeous full color example with wide clean margins. Elwe's world map is prized for the clean elegant large imagery.
