The Historic Hotel Claremont

A nice brochure issued by the Hotel Claremont to promote the business and Bay Area during the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The brochure features a large depiction of the hotel overlooking the city of Berkeley and facing toward San Francisco. There is a basic depiction of the roads, ferries, and Bay Bridge that connects Berkeley to Oakland, San Francisco, and Richmond. The map also extends north with a simplified route to Sacramento and Napa shown.

This brochure was likely produced for the Golden Gate International Exposition, which ran from 1939-1940. The exposition was held on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay to celebrate the opening of the Golden Gate and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridges, which more effectively connected the Bay Area to itself and the rest of California. The exposition certainly drew visitors, likely why the Hotel Claremont prominently illustrated it on a brochure promoting their hotel.
