Description

Scarce map of the newly formed United States, with portraits of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington in the Cartouche. One of the first English maps to name the United States and the only map which we have been able to locate which includes portraits of Franklin or Washington from this period. Both are quite useful. From a scarce multi-volume work called the Polite Traveller, of which only one example has appeared at auction in the past 25 years. This is the first example of the map we have ever seen.
